Have you ever wanted to attend Oktoberfest in Munich? Experience this German festival with us at home! Join us On October 24, 2020, at 6:30 PM via Zoom.

About this Event:

Submarine Officers Spouses Association of Washington is excited to bring you Oktoberfest 2020 (Virtual Style)! Ian Campbell, Head Brewer at Silver City Brewery, is going to help us celebrate the German way…talking about Beer Making. He will lead us through a virtual tour of some of Silver City Brewery’s unique beers (e.g. Wonderland, Oktoberfest, Wet Hop Tropic Haze, and more).  This event is free to attend.

Event Activities:

  • Beer Making Discussion
  • Beer & Food Tasting/History (Beer Tasting Kits available)
  • Home Brew Competition
  • Beer Label Competition
  • German Trivia

Beer Tasting Kits ($25):

A limited number of tasting kits (4 x 20 oz bottles) of the beers that Ian will be talking about are available to purchase for $25.  If available, extra kits may be purchased after the event.

In order to purchase a beer tasting kit, please see this link.

Due to COVID restrictions, pick-up of tasting kits must be picked up from the Silverdale Target Parking lot (across from Olive Garden and next to the Little Library) on the morning of Saturday, October 24th between 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Look for a car with a SOSA sign. We ask that you wear a mask in your vehicle for the safety of our volunteers. Additional instruction and logistics for tasting kit pickup will be emailed out to registrants in advance. Alternative pick-up arrangements may be coordinated on a case-by-case basis. Refunds will not be given for any unclaimed beverage items.

Food:

While we are unable to provide food for this event, we recommend this easy to fix dinner menu that can bring a “Taste of Germany” into your own kitchen and will go nicely with the featured beers.  These items are available at the Bangor Commissary…including the extra big Soft Pretzels (located near the checkout line). Our recommended German fare consists of of the following items:

  • Salted Soft Pretzels
  • Dipping Sauce (Stone Ground or Honey Mustard, Cheese Sauce)
  • Bratwursts (excellent when cooked with beer)
  • Sauerkraut
  • Spaetzle
  • Strudel (dessert)

Home Brew Competition:

Mr. Ian Campbell, Head Brewer at Silver City Brewery, has agreed to be our judge for the Home Brews.  This is a great opportunity to have a Master Brewer check out your finest brew.  Entries will be judged on aroma, appearance, taste, and aftertaste.  Contestants can enter multiple entries.  No late entries will be permitted.
